Has anyone used the oak from a  whiskey barrel for smoking on egg?

  • Yes. Smells good out of the bag. No noticeable difference in regards to flavour IMO.

You can buy Jack Daniels wood chips, smell amazing. If you soak them, I am pretty sure you could get drunk off the liquid.

My sister-in-law gave me this bundle and I have not tried it yet, I always use Apple wood.

I have used it, IMO it is better for beef too strong for anything else. You might like it for other meats though.

The only oak I can find comes from whiskey barrels with the predominant being the Jack Daniel's chips these days.  Had a few years where I could get JD chunks but not of late.  I use for any beef cooks, especially brisket or a rib roast.  Enjoy-very thoughtful gift.
