I really like this one.  This one has fought me for weeks. Bent it when heat treating, had to straighten and retreat. Then I screwed up the handle and had to figure out how to fix it. Pain in the arse. But it's done and I'm giving it to a friend for her belated 40th. She has an Egg too.

A2 steel, zircote handle and mosaic pin.

Fine work. As the saying goes, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again."  You did that, to fine effect.

    Very nice!

    How are you heat treating?

I have been hanging out on the chefknivestogo forum too much lately.  My first piece of 1084 arrived last week.   Once I finish up s few dozen handles and knife bar for a client, I will try my hand at grinding and heat treating.

Another skilled piece.  Taking it up one piece at a time.  Most eggcellent.

I have the luxury of having a friend with a machine shop so I'm using his heat treat oven. I'm using A2 steel so it's wrapped in heat treat foil and soaked at 1900 F for about 1/2 an HR and then air cooled. Tempered at 400 for an hr and then a 2nd cycle. I use his hardness tester to check hardness. This one is 62 RC.

Never used 1084. I believe that one is water quenched but I'm not sure. These is a good heat treat app called Heat Treaters Guide Companion that gives really good info on HT.
