Poplar table for XL

Just put this in the backyard during the week.  Smoking a whole chicken for the first cookout on it.  Built it with my pops, we think it turned out pretty nice.  Included a little start to finish to show how we put it all together.

    Like the finished product.  What wood and stain/sealer did you use?

    4X4s and 2x4s are just regular pine, all the boards used for facings are poplar, the trim on the table top and egg support shelf are red oak.  No stain, just used sparvarnish to finish it, as a water/weather-proof sealant.

    Nice and clean. I like the use of the wood dowel.  I guess that's what you would call them.

    That's a really snazzy table. Looks like you're a pretty good shot as well.  ;)
  • That table is a work of art. Much better than the pressure treated 2x4s I'm putting together.

    But I'm gonna have to flag @DoubleEgger. Looks like that center mass in the 9 got away from ya once.  ;). Might I presume that was a double to single action firearm?

    @Killit_and_Grillit the target in the background was my dad's, I believe that one was a Glock 9.

    @gijoejd went with the dowels for a cleaner screw less look.  This was my first time using them

    @MeTed thanks!

    Did you make your own?  I really like the look and am interested in using them in the future.

    It's beautiful. What was the thinking behind the wood choices? Are there really only screws in the 2x's? What's holding the top on, or the poplar sides to the frames? You must have a covered patio, that I don't.

    @Kayak the poplar looked attractive when we went to look for different woods.  the top is a few 1x10s biscuit jointed together put on one at a time and  glued/clamped down to the frame.  The frames are glued/clamped together plus each one has a dowel going through it, into the 4x4 legs. No covered patio but my backyard is pretty sun protected.

    @mtp  I have a cover that fits over the whole table/egg, hoping that will work

    Very nice indeed!
    The problem with a problem is that you don't know it's a problem until it's a problem, and that is a big problem.
