Turkey cook???

My 12lb turkey for tomorrow turned into a 20.  How long should it take to cook that thunder chicken?  Going to do the mad max recipe i think.

I would absolutely spatchcock the bird and give serious thought to a high-temp (450) cook.  Should be done in around  2-2 1/2 hours.  Pull with the breast about 155 and cover with foil and rest 20-30 minutes.  Thank me tomorrow.  =)

I have 6 slabs of ribs to cook as well.   Not sure i want to cook them at 450°.  I may spatchcock it if i run out of height in the egg.

If going mad max then you have his recipe.  He says 4 hours at around 325*F on the dome for a 14 lb bird.  With a 20 lb bird-you can expect another 90 or so minutes depending.  This is not a linear deal as the birds get larger.
Don't know the size of your BGE but if a large then I have done a 20 lb bird but removed the fire ring and built the cook hardware from the top of the fire-box to have sufficient vertical clearance.  FWIW-

@lousubcap i have an XL.  It looks like i will have to remove the fire ring as well to get the clearance for the 6slabs of ribs and the bird.   I was just eyeing up and measuring scratching my head trying to figure out how to get everything in there.  But i never thought about removing the fire ring.   Genius u must be!  Haha

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while-that was my "one shining moment."  I'm sure it will all work out just fine.  Enjoy the cook and eats.

Legs to the back 350 indirect my guess is 3.5hrs
