Is this normal? Help! Sealent melting? Top off center? Newb.
Hello Everyone.
I've had my lg BGE for about 3 weeks now. My first 10 cooks were low&slow and/or around 400 degree F tops.
I did my first pizzas the other day and was trying to keep it around 550F, but when I was inside cutting the first pizza and prepping the 2nd, the egg got up over 700F. I didn't think it was a big deal but then I noticed the sealant caulking by the bottom air-vent seemed to get white / glossy and looked like it might be melting. Is this normal? (See pic)

Any thoughts on this?
Also, my BGE was assembled at the distributor. Are the domes supposed to be this off-center? When it closes, it is completely sealed, but I'm worried this could get worse and cause leakage. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Call dealer. It'll need realigned and gasket etc is obviously still WARRANTY.
PSA if this is a large I'd request the new style bands.
Be aware going high temp, especially on original OE bands, the LG in particular, has a tendency of getting off kilter.

Lower vent sealant looks normal. Under bite not normal.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas

I've never paid any attention to the caulking but it is common for eggs to have underbite. But your underbite looks a little extreme to me. I personally would try aligning your dome better

You just bought the egg and they assembled it at the dealer ... they need to fix the problem with the alignment for you. That's what you paid for.

Here is my sealant which does look milky in the gap. I couldn't get a good shot of my dome by my underbite is only about an 1/8 of an inch. Readjust your dome and egg on! -
You paid for it to be right-another vote for your dealer to show-up on a house-call and fix the dome alignment. Can't comment on the caulk.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Dealer delivered the egg like that? Thats embarassing, if so. -
not sure when the new bands rolled out on the larges(assuming you have a large) but i might argue for the new updated band, betting they didnt discount you for the older style

Send that photo to your dealer. If it doesn't shame them into coming over to fix that underbite for you then I can't imagine what would. Also, check your gasket, as an underbite like that during a pizza cook can quickly destroy it.

thank you all for the feedback, I picked it up at the dealer, pre-assembled. I'm going to start by giving them a call. They are only 3 miles away.

Yes - the sealant looks pretty much the same as on my 2 months old large BGE so I think that part of it must be normal

My sealant looks like that and has spots where it separated a little bit from the bottom damper. It hasn't caused me any trouble at all. My large has a slight underbite. Yours looks to be pretty pronounced. It wouldn't be a bad idea to learn to align the top and bottom yourself. I'm betting the bands' and the rear hinge's bolts are pretty loose. Mine was like that at first until I realized you have to torque the bands pretty hard. The rear hinge's bolts need to be tightened frequently. I check those every few cooks. They usually need some slight tightening.Pittsburgh, PA. LBGE
