When you say fill the firebox up with lump, you mean to the top where the firebox meets the fire ring and not all the way to the top of the fire ring, right?

Yes, that is what I meant. The highest I have ever filled my large egg is about 1/2 way up the fire ring. So that would be a full firebox and then enough more to go 1/2 way up the fire ring.
