Usuba Bocho build

So this is actually the very first knife I started. It is an attempt at a Usuba and is chisel ground for a right hand user. It took me forever because I had no good way to grind the urasuki on the back. Literally hours with 80 grit emery cloth hand sanding to try to get something like the traditional hollow grind on the back side.  Handle didn't look as nice as I had hoped. It's red Palm with Osage orange spacer and walnut. Need to work on laminated handles more.

This thing is insanely sharp. Like so much I am not sure I want to use it. One slip is gonna mean some stitches. But I do love my Japanese water stone. It does what it's supposed to if you work at it.

This will likely be the last kitchen knife I make. I don't need anymore. I may post a shot of them all but in addition there is a paring knife, a 10 inch chefs and of course my little 5 inch Santoku that I'm loving. I mean, who needs more kitchen knives?

Very nice. I am still at the rehandleing phase of this journey. I will get into blademaking eventually.

I found red palm better than black palm, but I wasn't happy with the way it finished. More tearout than I would like.  I want to try stabilized red palm.

I also find it sucks up finish line a sponge and I think stabilized would be better if the pores are already full of resin.

You bet. But the big question is where are you located?  I'm in Canada so that could make it a bit tougher.
