Dome thermometer not reading higher temps?

I have tested it in boiling water and it's spot on.  I don't believe it's working on higher temps.  Not sure how to check that.  I zapped the tip with my torch and she shot up, but I'm thinking it's sticking when the heat is gradual.

Was just reading 350 and stuck there.  I raised lid and got a huge flashback.

I think they have an 8 year warranty so you may be able to get a replacement.

Good at the single point temp is one data point-but I have not seen any reason to question the accuracy over the 212-500*F range I operate within given the single point check.  The 350*F stick-you are confident that your settings support a higher temp and a dome touch is in agreement?  Regardless, not worth worrying over-when in doubt, throw it out and go again.

It sure is.  full orange glow from bottom vent, steak searing flashback when raising lid, all at the "300*" range.  Just called them, only a 1yr warranty on the therm.  Time to start shopping!!!

You can pull the dome thermometer and put a instant read meat thermometer through the dome hole for a second opinion.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.
