Roof for my egg

Frustrated, since I purchased my egg we have had either rain or snow every other day. Thinking of covering the egg with a tent top cover to keep the rain off. What do some of you do?

Wear a hat and goretex jacket. Or cook in the kitchen. If you meat the egg, nothing.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

That is awesome. Would be proud to stand under that on a rainy day. Thanks for the pic and the good idea. Are there any plans posted?

Good idea. When you finish please post a pic. I may start a table in the basement over the winter myself. Will post when complete.

If it's snowing, I just cook in the snow.  If it's warmer weather and raining, I have a pop up canopy I put up and cook under.

Smokeware caps are on all of my exposed eggs.  Got tired of bald spots through the outdated DFMT.  A dedicated black Carhartt thermal hoody and a beanie covers it all here in the Midwest.  The kettles and WSMs get much cheaper Smokeware caps, jar lids.

  • Cantilevered cover like the one pictured earlier is my goal.  Might have a line on a SS table from a brewing business nearby that is closing, so I might be getting started earlier than I thought....  But being in GA, with a full-southern exposure deck that I egg on, I need some kind of cover to keep the sun from getting me hotter than the egg!

Here's what I did.  Minnesota can be tough on egging in the winter

Santa brought me a Smokeware cap and a Kick Ash basket and stopped the other day at Lodge and grabbed a cast iron griddle.  When putting in the basket tonight discovered a crack in my fire ring on the egg that happened the last couple weeks.  Guess I will find out about the warranty from BGE !

Good Luck, I hear from the place I purchased mine that there will be no issue to get them to replace parts for a lifetime. He was telling me stories from the store... all good. Let us know what your experience is. How do you think it cracked, High heat? Any idea?

  • My smokeware cap saved thanksgiving this year! It was a nasty rain through my turkey cook. It doesn't keep me dry but does good for the egg. It definitely not much compared to those canopies. Pretty impressive looking.

No clue- I have sworn off cooking when below zero, so I don't think it was an issue of big temp swings.  Did a clean burn 3 weeks ago but was fine when I cleaned it out.

I roll my XL out of the garage and have a slight overhand so the bad weather isn't a big problem.
