Just bought a 4k tele.  Looking for a player now and everything I've read says that unit is the best.  What says you?

No personal experience, but this article appears well thought out and objective.  Hope this helps.

It seems to be the vanguard in UHD at the moment.  Especially with the price point.  In two years the players will cost $50, but I encourage people to jump on the early tech bandwagon because that finances the progress that lowers the price for the masses in the long term, faster.

Also, I heard a rumor it plays video games.

Some of the most fun I've had recently is downloading and playing a recent version of NBA Jam.  Old school, arcade-style basketball at its finest.  Boom-Shaka-Laka

I have not moved over to 4K yet....what the hell am I going to do with the 3 hdmi cords buried in my walls , they need to be switched over to new hdmi for it to work. I am not sure I can pull them through with the new attached so it's a problem.

The original XBone is not 4k.  Only the new S version.

I know.  My 65" living room TV is regular ol' 1080p.  I'm going from broken old xbox 360 to one.  I find 1080i/p to be just fine.  Wish there was better content - 99.9% of teevee and movies is uninteresting crap.

On a side note.  The new tele did a wonderful job of upconverting the picture on a blu ray I played last night.  Very impressive!!

Once/if I upgrade both my TV and receiver to do 4K/Ultra, I will upgrade to this:
    http://oppodigital.com/blu-ray-udp-203/
Definitely expensive, doesn't play video games, and not for everyone.  (I have their BDP-103, and a large collection of DVD-A, SACD, and Bluray Audio disks)

I've also got an Oppo BDP-103 (with a mod chip) and don't really have plans anytime soon to upgrade but looking at their website now I see that Oppo is only offering the UDP-203. Is that true? Oppo used to also make a higher end model that sold for about $1500-ish. Wonder why they dropped to just one model? Maybe the UDP-203 is just that good. :)

What 4k content is available to play other than video games? There's like the Nature channel and one other on Directv I think. Before you think you have the latest and greatest, there are 8K TVs already.
And be aware that you don't want to play online video games at 4k resolution. The video processing time creates lag for you so those playing on old XBOXES play without the lag and win.

Pretty sad list from netflix, but keep in mind the industry has been "filming" in UHD or higher for years.  So they can upconvert in the future.  We're just in a state of flux.  Not so important to jump on this unless you're paying more attention to the pixels than the content, and fun to talk about for nerds.  Hizzah.

State of flux is right. I'm just gonna sit out the whole 4K and maybe even skip 8K and just wait for the SuperDuperUltraHD spec.

Got a 70" 4K from Costco black Friday weekend for under $1K. Salesman in the department tried to talk me out of it because everything is selected on your smartphone. Customers hated it and returned the TV. That technology made me want it more. Simple to use IMO. I like it a lot, especially at that price. But there's a serious lack of 4k sources. Don't think even Blu-ray can hold a full movie in 4k. Maybe there will be something new if it all doesn't go to online streaming. The best way to get a video technology accepted, is to get the porn industry to endorse it and use it.

Was always interested in seeing a pr0n flick in 3D, but don't think that was ever done.
I mean, a friend of mine thought that'd be neat, not me.

Well, I'm doing my part.  Just ordered the X Box One S.  Will be here on Monday.  And the spiral continues.  Time for some movies and new games!

  • Know that there are many older "vanilla" 4K TV's currently for sale, but the latest and greatest generation 4K TV's now come with HDR technology.

Make sure you're comparing apples to apples.
