If this is the climate at your house, is $50-$100 really going to make a difference? Why such concern about shopping several counties for the "best" price?PoppasGrill said:She has threatened,(promised?) that if I don't tell her where to get it and which one I want, she will get one and I will NOT have any options.
The best advice I've seen in this thread is to look for the "best" customer service. Find a place that is knowledgeable and passionate about the BGE. After you get the basic Egg, you will return to the store many times for questions and discussion about cooking & accessories. Knowledge and good service during those many visits will far outweigh the $50 you may save on the original purchase.
I bought my XLBGE from a local place I'd never heard of because they donated one to my favorite local charity. Still happy that I gave them my business. BUT, they don't return my calls w/ questions, accessories can take as long as 2 weeks to arrive, and they generally have a lot to learn about Customer Service. Even with the 10% discount I get on accessories there because I bought their Egg, I'm now looking for another place for my ongoing visits.
Of all the lies I tell, "Just kidding" is my favorite.

Buy a Large. You may regret getting a medium.Richmond and Mathews County, VA. Large BGE, Weber gas, little Weber charcoal. Vintage ManGrates. Little reddish portable kamado that shall remain nameless here. Very Extremely Stable Genius.

Have been looking at the capacities and figuring since it just me and my wife, and my young grand daughter on weekends, a M would be good for us. Also it is able to do enough ribs and chicken to feed my son and his wife on occasion, if we let them hang out with us during our time with the G-baby.Theophan said:I agree with those pushing the Large. My wife bought me a Medium a number of years ago, and I not only loved it, but I still love it, and it's the Egg I use most frequently. But... there are just too many times when a Medium just isn't big enough, and a year or two later, she got me a Large. The combination is perfect for me, but even though I love my Medium and use it more often than my Large, if I only had one Egg it wouldn't be a Medium. I'd go for the Large.
As I already stated, I have an XL. It is just the wife and I and on occasion my son/DIL (and now a new granddaughter) + my daughter/SIL and 3 grandsons are over (more rare since my daughter and brood moved to another state) and then there are the times when I need to do 30+ burgers for a group of peeps. I can't get all of that done on a medium or large (at least not all at the same time).
When I made the purchase I went BIG and used the excuse that it should be the last grill I would ever NEED to buy (lifetime warranty and all). While that is still true, I would still LIKE to have maybe a mini-max. -
@PoppasGrill If you can afford it, I recommend getting a Large as most have suggested. I was in the same boat--just me and my wife so I didn't think I'd need a Large. Fortunately my BIL with lots of BBQing experience highly recommended going Large. I thank him to this day for his recommendation because I've had some larger cooks that I couldn't have anticipated that would have pushed the limits of a Medium--larger turkeys, packer brisket, multiple pork shoulders, etc. The larger capacity simply gives you more versatility. There's a reason why the Large size is the most popular BGE size sold. If you're good with a Medium, it's also a great choice. It just means you have to be more creative. There's lots of accessories out there to give you more cooking options. However I predict there will be times in the future when you'll start thinking what if's and I shouldda. Just my 2 cents... Hope this helps and looking forward to seeing lots of cooks from you!BGE Large, MiniMax & Mini; Weber Summit Charcoal Grilling Center, Weber Smokey Mountain 18.5" & E-310 natural gas; CyberQ Cloud; Flame Boss 200; ThermoWorks Smoke & Thermopen Mk4

Get a large and enjoy it. Look for a fair price, not the rock bottom lowest. I'd rather pay a little more and support a good local dealer who's going to help me out. If you like to cook and like to grill a kamado is great fun.Chicago, IL - Large and Small BGE - Weber Gasser and Kettle

Is the Egg the only method you will be grilling? We keep a Weber gas for quick cooks. If you are going to get an Egg get a large. If you use it a lot, you may regret a medium. If you regret later getting one at all, you can give it to a family member, but large is the best size for any family.

My remorse usually comes in after spending money on myself, I have the money ,and will drop it on my wife or G-baby without a second thought, and even my kids with a minor headache afterwards.
I drove to Eustis this morning, and bought myself, or she bought for me, a medium with nest for under 625$ , so I saved around 125$ from average price in the area. Was upset that our local store in Ocala said they couldn't match prices.
Dropped it off at the house and am in the meat market looking for something worthy of my first cook.
pictures will follow when I figure that out.
Thank you all for the advise and suggestions. -
+1 Go with the Large at least, I'm also a fan of going the demo egg from an eggfest route! Should be able to get a large for $700 with at least a nest, plate setter, and some goodies to go with.LBGE

Now that you've purchased your egg, you should plan on attending the Sunshine State Eggfest in Cape Canaveral, FL in April, 2017. I went this past April and it was really great. Sponsored by Wassi's Meat Market in Melbourne, FL. I haven't been to their market, but they put on a great eggfest. Ceramic Grill Store was there in a big way with all their goodies too.

Congrats on the egg. You're going to love the medium.

I guess I am in the minority here. I have a large (love it) - and a joe jr. it's usually just the wife and I so we use the jr 90% of the time. The only time I use the large is when cooking something big like a butt. The advantage to the jr is how little lump it uses and how convenient it is for a quick cook like steaks, chicken, ribs, chops etc. I guess what I'm saying is you really need 2 !
