Ceramic placement Question

I have a question, and have attached a picture to help. If you open the pic I have numbered a few key areas of concern.
#1= Center of my egg
#2= Fire Ring Notch
#3= Half moon air vent
#4= Hole in Fire Box

Question:
I have read that the hottest area on the egg is the center back at #1. Fire ring notch #2 notch should be dead center so the heat defuser leg that sits into the notch on the firing lines up dead center of egg at #1.
So starting at the very bottom I did the following. Opening of firebox matches the vent opening on the front of the egg.
Then you place the fire ring notches #2 and half moon #3 over the holes on firebox #4. So to me there is no way I could get the very top heat defuser leg to be dead nuts rear center at #1.
Am I wrong about this or do I have it set up correctly? Do #2, #3and #4 have to align or match?
Thanks

I always heard to have he notch of the plate setter at the back so when it's in, it's providing extra protection.
So I have #2 directly at the back.
    Doubt it matters much.

That's that I hear. Some youtube video said to do it and also the guy doing the video said he had a heat temp gun to prove the hottest area. It's not physically possible to get that configuration to happen and have the front door match the firebox hole. Maybe I am missing something?

I would move 2 to 1 and not worry about 3 lining up with 2.

So you think the air holes lineup doesn't Matter? I was wondering that myself

  • The hottest spot is a little to the right at the 1 o'clock position, opposite the bottom vent. It should not matter where the hole in the firebox and half moon hole is. The half moon is to allow you to remove the fire ring easier.

As with most things EGG, you will get many different answers to a single question. And most will work great.
For me, I have never experienced a hot spot to the back of my egg. It really depends on where the lit lump is located. A simple hand over fire will tell you.
When using the plate setter, I position it with the legs at 2, 6 and 10 o'clock. Using the leg at the 6 o'clock position to block/disrupt the direct IR energy and airflow to my temp gauge/probe in the dome.
Thus giving me a bit more accurate reading of the air temp in the dome. I started charting these temp differences with my Stoker and the Stoker log software years ago and found this to be true.
But to each their own setup and process of cooking on the Egg. If your way is working, what does it matter how someone else does it.

#2 right at the back for heat protection. Plus this way the front 2 PS legs act a protection for the maverick wires.

you are way overthinking =) the back of your oven is hotter than the front from opening the door ;) use the hot spot to your advantage, cook the bigger chicken thighs there, aim the turkey legs toward the back so they cook quicker than the breast, bigger end of the ribs toward the back etc. theres a difference depending how you light, i light offcenter towards the front of the grill to offset the heat sometimes but the difference is not much at all to really make a difference

Don't worry about the half moons in the fire ring. They won't matter at all.
