Brunswick stew is comfort food.

Made an incredibly tasty pot of Brunswick stew yesterday and had some for lunch today as well. This one was just a dump stew, made by dumping a bunch of stuff in the pot and simmering for a few hours time. Red onions, roasted red peppers, some grated potatoes, a little leftover corn, chopped grilled chicken, a bunch of leftover pulled pork, a large can of crushed tomatoes, some cayenne pepper, black pepper and hot sauce. Very good.

  • Love this stew...used to get it in the south at a BBQ place in AL.  Never see it anywhere for some reason in TX.

Looking good! Reminds me of the rabbit stew we had earlier this week!

I think you find Brunswick stew from Virginia to Georgia, maybe 'Bama too. But that's about it. Don't know why - it's GOOD stuff!!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Let us know how it turns out.
  • I used to eat that for lunch almost everyday back in my late teens. I was workign at an electronics place that remanufactured color picture tubes. At lunch I would sit in my car and eat Brunswick stew or minestrone every day for lunch while listening to Midnight At The Oasis on the radio.

I've never had it - but I'm going to change that. I have pulled pork, chicken vacuum sealed in the freezer. I have frozen chicken broth. I'm almost there, huh?

Brunswick stew can be as ridgid as you want or as simple to clean up leftovers in some cases.

Here in Georgia you get it all- I'm partial to a sweet vinegar base myself. Must have corn. Chicken and pork. Plenty of smoke from the meats!!

it is indeed comfort food. A simple meal that warms the soul. Blessed I have a wife who makes some of the best. Her recipe is hands down amazing and I make sure to save left over shoulders and chicken for her !!

Give it a try, I bet you like it. Lots of different recipes out there. I did not follow any recipe and could not duplicate this one, which is a shame because it was dang good. Sometimes I get lucky just dumping stuff in a pot.
