    Great skill-set.  Congrats.
An observation-I would suggest you air-gap the base of the BGE in addition to the paver.  There have been several threads of fires from the same "fire-protected" set-up.  The table wood gets fire fatigued over time and then fails in a most dramatic fashion.  FWIW-

Thanks! There are heat safe silicone pads between the patio and the shelf. Hopefully it works...but i didnt see any evidence of heat on the shelf of the old table so I'll keep a watch on it!  :)

My experience is that if the table does start on fire it tips in one direction or the other, not onto the silicone heat safe pad...just saying...might want to consider an air gap...

  • Great table. My large sat on a three and a half inch thick paver stone with no air gap. Luckily before the fire that was sure to happen, I went to repaint the table and it was scorched big time under the paver.

Just keep an eye on it. Maybe lift up the egg once a year to see if any scorching is occurring.

According to BGE an air gap is preferred but setting an egg on a concrete paver is acceptable practice.

I've seen a couple pix of tables that had the egg sitting on the nest but burned up because the diameter of the opening was just a bit too snug to the egg so even in a nest a wooden table may not be perfectly safe. :)

Yep...used the festool domino. Sure made it easier.
  • So..how exactly should i create the air gap? Id like to keep it on the patio block
  • I'd suggest a table nest, which will also give you a little more of a gap on the table top edges, which is also desirable.
