Smokeware thermometers

what's the boards general opinion of these thermometers? My tel tru needs re calibration way too often so I'm thinking of giving this one a Shot. I also like the bigger diameter on the smokewares.

Love mine. Easy to read. Never needs calibration until it needs to be replaced. Some think that is a good thing, some think otherwise. I can see both sides of that opinion for sure!

the larger size though is awesome and I never have a need to know the temp above 700.

@stlcharcoal helped me grab mine and many other toys as well!!
Just bought an Egg?  Here is what you get to look forward to now:

Plate Setter, FlameBoss 200, Spider, PSWOO-CI, Additional Rig Shelf for dome cooking, Thermapen, iGrill2, Cast Iron, Blackstone, Cooking Accessories for the Blackstone, Cover for the Egg and the Blackstone, shopping for Rub like a fine wine or IPA, and a new fascination with lump and what brand is the best-all to be debated every Friday Night.  Next desires-Joetisceriie, Adjustable Rig, Grillmates, table and more eggs

I have the big black faced one.  Very accurate, easy to read, and looks good.

I had a couple of the first generation thermometers from Smokeware.
They were better than the stock BGE at the time. Then BGE upgraded and started using tel tru. They are great but I still liked the larger dial on the Smokeware. Last week I got a couple of the new Smokeware temps. They are real nice. Much better than my older Smokeware guages. They feel very well made and solid. I have the white background multicolor models. I have no idea who makes them for Smokeware but I'm very happy with the quality. They were all set perfect out of the box when I tested them.

Might order a black dial model as well next time. Very cool looking...
I have seen a few others post photos recently of the black dial. But I stuck with the white for now.

They get good reviews, as does the Smokeware guy who sells them. I'm quite happy with my Tel-Tru from before BGE started using them. Dunno if the BGE version is the same or not. The diameter isn't particularly important - just turn your target temp straight up. You can see it from a long way off.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

@Photo Egg I also have the large Smokeware temp gauge with the white dial and multicolor cooking ranges.  Some Eggheads have posted photos of their Smokeware black dial temp gauge and I may just get it if they ever go on sale.

I had the old one with the mispelled BBQ. I tossed it as it wouldn't hold temp.

I love mine. Looks a bit large as compared to the stock one (a bit Flavor Flav like) but my old eyes can see it perfectly from my perch on the deck. It did need calibrating out of the box but good so far.

I bought one of the black 3" Smokeware thermo.  The one that can't be calibrated.  It was off out of the box.  I went back to my old BGE thermo.

I need a new thermo and everyone is talking about Smokewares. Like you said, cant calibrate it and there is NO warranty info on their website about them,

Smokeware offers 2 versions.  A calibrateable one and a non-calibrateable one.

Truthfully, no thermos for the egg are calibrateable.  You can just reset the zero.

With that said, I prefer the non-calibrateable ones.  I have a few of each.  I have purposefully abused them.  Going nuclear, then dropping in the snow, then back in the Egg.  They are still going strong.

Also, Smokeware stands behind their products 110%.  They are a stand-up company.

Thanks for asking this.  I bent a couple of my egg dome thermos from storing too many items in them and am looking at getting some of the these. Great feedback everyone!

How can you tell if you have one that is calibrate able?  It doesn't say anything either way on the box.

Has to do with the nut on the back.  I believe the calibrateable  (re-zeroable) one is thicker nut.
