smashburger spatula help

Anyone have a good recommendation for a spatula for smashburgers preferably something available at Amazon. My old favorite broke a couple months ago and I have tried in vain to find one I like. They all seem to thick at the point of contact and at the wrong angle for some reason making it really difficult to get under the burger much less a fried egg.

you want the thick one with the sharpened edge for smash burgers, dexter has them, not good for eggs, its basically a heavy bent paint scraper. there are less expensive versions on amazon that look like they made the dexter model

You can use a pot for smashing them. I have one of those spatulas that fishless person speaks of. They work too, but i don't know if your burgers will taste better spending money on a tool just to squash burgers.

I've been using this one for a year now - Very beefy - would buy it again.

Yep, that's what I have. Bought it for the griddle. Doubles as an axe.

Hogwash! If this site has taught me anything, it's that the quality of food is directly related to the amount of money spent on gadgets.

I use the bacon press to smash them it works great.

The bacon press comes in handy for many things, improves the sear in just about any pan. Great tool for the indoor/outdoor kitchen.BrandonQuad Cities

I too have the same dilemma, I own a "bacon press", havent tried it yet, not really interested in a $25 spatula so guess I will try the bacon press and my existing spatulas next time.

Have kicked around preheating it up too, to smash sear from both sides, without the parchment. Could only do burgers per order, one at a time. Not a huge issue with them cooking so fast.BrandonQuad Cities

I got a spatula from a recommendation on this forum. It's Winco TN56. I don't remember who I ordered it from, but I googled it and here's one source:

It worked GREAT. I pushed down on it with a smaller one in the other hand, because I'm just a weak old gal. Highly recommended.Judy in San Diego -

I have seen on Food TV , some cook bought some Brick layer trowel and cut it down to the size . Cut the tip back to size. probably a very heavy long life for a flat top griddle or grill.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It is the flipping of the burgers I am most concerned with. I use a drywall trowel with parchment paper to handle the flattening. That part works extremely well. Looks like a couple good options here to handle the flipping.

I use this bacon press to smash them. Just used a grinding wheel to sharpen the edge on my regular spatula for flipping.Cincinnati, Ohio. Large BGE since 2011. Still learning.
