Did I assemble it wrong?

Evening all!

I just finished putting together my XL and I seem to have a small gap in the gasket on one side.

I am am learning how to control the temp (and roasting some garlic) and it got away from me for a moment and went up to 430.

Did I fry my gasket already? Is this really all that important?

Thankd for any help in advance y'all!

I don't know  the fix...probably something to do with tightening your bands, but you do need to get it fixed.  That is going to create an airgap that will effect your temps

Just bought an Egg?  Here is what you get to look forward to now:

Plate Setter, FlameBoss 200, Spider, PSWOO-CI, Additional Rig Shelf for dome cooking, Thermapen, iGrill2, Cast Iron, Blackstone, Cooking Accessories for the Blackstone, Cover for the Egg and the Blackstone, shopping for Rub like a fine wine or IPA, and a new fascination with lump and what brand is the best-all to be debated every Friday Night.  Next desires-Joetisceriie, Adjustable Rig, Grillmates, table and more eggs

It looks like it needs to be adjusted. Your gasket is probably ok.

I am not a professional. However it looks like there is room that you can loosen the band bolts let the lid drop to be flush and then retighten.  That should work

  • Nah, 430 won't toast your gasket. RRP posted a pic with a great way to solve that problem, hopefully he will see your post.

Thanks y'all. When this things cools down I'll loosen the band and push it flush then retighten.

This might be the first time 430 was listed as a temp on the forum!   Welcome!   Just save yourself some time and rip that gasket off while it is easy. Get a Rutland from @RRP

I want an xl I think.  Post some of your cooks!

I used the attached advise to get my XL dome in perfect alignment. It's relatively easy to follow.
