When Sandy blew through the DC area, we saw 70+ mph sustained winds. They made my cherry tree whip around like a butter churn but my medium was fine in a nest pushed up against the house.

A sobering 3 min video from a couple of years back, in Ron's neck of the woods. You can see a large base, and I think a fire ring at the door as he pans down at the end.

Damn, brutal devastation. I will never live in Tornado country, I can put up with the occasional hurricane.Focker said:A sobering 3 min video from a couple of years back, in Ron's neck of the woods. You can see a large base, and I think a fire ring at the door as he pans down at the end.

I cooked some boston butts through the last hurricane we had here. The wind fvcked with the temp, you need to turn the egg around so the lower damper is facing away from the direction of the wind. And that direction will move as it passes. Otherwise, if it's not shielded by structure, strap it down or put it in your shed or garage.

So KJ warranty covers blatant disregard of common sense. Good to know.Toxarch said:A buddy in Kansas (no hurricane) had the lid open on his KJ Big Joe. Wind hit and blew it over, breaking the dome. He told KJ what happened and they covered it under warranty.
