I realize this is a BBQ forum, but we do have diverse interests here. This year Hagerty Insurance Co. is again sending 4 of their employees to buy the parts to build and drive home an auto. This year the assignment is a '30 Model A ford in 100 hours. Last year it was a '46 Ford pick up. It's a few tense days of scavenger hunting, building and help from show attendees. It fascinates me when these walking talking bib overall wearing dudes recite the years of interchangeable parts etc helping get the build made. It may seen boring at the start but as the deadline nears you get right in there in the thick of things pulling for them to get their one part at a time creations built! Here's a link:

And here was the start of this year's trip getting there and getting set up.

I mentioned last year was the first time Hagerty had sponsored this building event. I have their insurance coverage on a car and have often read magazine articles written by these people who were doing the building so I sort of felt like I knew them, but after last year I knew I knew them! I got intrigued watching last year and being a retired guy I could stayed glued when parts of the show intrigued me. While I have never done a car rebuild like they do/are it was interesting and I was soon caught up in their frustration of defective parts, machining issues and the last night turned into a marathon to get that old '46 Ford fired up an stay running.

It also took my memory back to my career in the 60's, 70's and early 80s which involved really late night hardware and software conversions. That meant extreme attention to detail, yet relief from boxes of pizzas, cigarettes, black coffee and then beer celebrations at late night beer taverns until last call at 3:00AM. I have no clue how we lived to tell about them. LOL

Last year I applied for and received a cool heavy duty black t/shirt commemorating the event and I hope to come away with one again this year.

I see already today they got a great jump start body wise...but "she ain't been fired up either - so no mo - no go!"

by the low number of hits - at least via this thread - it doesn't appear this link provided much interest to fellow eggheads on the OT forum! oh well!

  • Sometimes it is like the stand up comics say "a rough room." I was ridiculed for offering hurricane tips. =)  But what was funny, I knew that was coming, and I knew who from. Some people are so predictable.

watching the early portion of that video reminded me of my HS days when I was having to screw around with the old generator on my 1962 Impala--seemed like there was always a little something that had to be fixed or adjusted
