My XL Took a Leak.

I cooked a quick supper of brats tonight because we were busy today watching the Detroit Tigers miss the playoffs and monitoring fantasy football players. Ain't this time of year great? Anyway, after the cook I noticed a puddle under the egg. I've never seen my egg take a leak before. So I looked underneath. F 'ing crack. Flint, Michigan

What the hell was leaking? That's quite a bit of liquid that didn't vaporize.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

I don't know. It was 10 brats. I haven't used the egg since last weekend when I cooked a couple of turbo butts.

I had the same deal with a LBGE a couple of years ago-self healed and I have cranked it thru the temperature ranges from L&S to 600*F many times. Submitted the warranty claim for the base and the replacement is in stand-by but no worries now. Must be the low-grade lump I use that sealed the deal.

File the claim but you should be "good to go" for the foreseeable future. Of course, with ceramics who knows...
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. CHEETO (aka Agent Orange) makes Nixon look like a saint. -
Agree, my replacement base for my XL is in the box in the garage. Crack hasn't changed in 6 monthsTHANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER

Seems like a lot of posts about cracked XL's. Certainly more than the other sizes. Anyone got a theory as to why? I'm considering one but there seems to be a cracked XL thread pretty regularly.

Interesting to see similar stains to the left and right of the crack. Sorry to take your Tigers' spot, wish us luck on Tuesday!canuckland

Sure, why not? The Jays played better ball this year. The Tigers had a chance to control their own destiny and they flubbed it over and over again.Canugghead said:Interesting to see similar stains to the left and right of the crack. I am currently on my 4th XL base in 4 years (just replaced it last week). I treated this last one very gently, no pizza, no clean burns. I never got it above 500 degrees. It's annoying, but I never had a problem getting it replaced. In fact, this last one my dealer filed the claim the same day I reported the issue and my replacement base arrived the next day.yljkt said:Seems like a lot of posts about cracked XL's. I have a crack in my XL base as well. I am wary to do an unattended/overnight cook until I replace the base. Am I being paranoid? Just seems like the base is now 'compromised'
Reading how others keep the warranty base as 'standby'--wondering if I dont need to rush replacing mine afterall...

I reacted and made my warranty claim pretty quickly once I saw the crack and it grew in length. But after a quick initial run to the other side, it really hasn't changed, it's never gotten wider. Replacing a base seems like a pita, so I just put it off and watched the crack. I've run overnight cooks, lots and lots of pizza, high temp sears, etc. My XL is in a nest, sitting on concrete with the closest structures being a stone retaining wall and a pool, so even a catastrophic failure wouldn't be much more than a mess. And devastating, of course.Sirk98 said:I have a crack in my XL base as well. I am wary to do an unattended/overnight cook until I replace the base. Am I being paranoid? my XL is on a nest, on a stone patio, but near some bushes... Changing it does seem like it would be a colossal PITA, but my gasket also needs replacing/removal..
My crack doesnt appear to have grown either. Cant make up my mind, lol
