Band spacers

So I'm putting my new large egg together today and it came with the red spacers. I used them as directed and when done there was a sizable gap at the rear in both sides. Dollar bill slid through no drag. In searching they're supposed to make dome alignment fool proof but I'm not finding that to be the case. I tried readjusting the bands by loosening the bottom carriage bolt, opening the lid and pushing the lower bands down some at the rear and tightening the lower bolt which gave a better seal all around than the spacers by far. After messing with it so much I need new bolts and nuts so off to home Depot tomorrow. I read in the old instructions to slide the bottom band down as far as it will go but these spaces seem to keep it a good bit higher. First time egger open to suggestions.

Thought I'd update on what worked for me based on all the reading I did.

    1) Loosen both carriage bolts, start fresh with new bolts and nuts (I used galvanized 5/16" x 2" NC 18TPI from home depot w/ regular hex nuts
    2) Insert spacers at 2, 4, 8, 10 o'clock and gap the bottom band flush with the bottom of the gasket/top of the base. Tighten the bottom band carriage bolt, but not fully.
    3) Check that top band is meeting 4 spacers and is pretty even all around. Tighten top carriage bolt but not fully.
    4) Do the dollar bill test. Chances are it will pass, until you open the lid and close it. Now it will be too loose at the rear left and right sides adjacent the hinge area.
    5) Take a wooden block and hammer, gently tap the upper band upward at these two loose locations allowing the dome weight to help press downward on the gasket.
    6) Fully tighten bottom bolt, then top bolt. Double check dollar bill test and should be good.

Some gasket spots are real tight whereas others not so much but that's the nature of the ceramics. Now if this deck would get finished, either today or tomorrow, I can check this thing out. It's sitting in my living room waiting.
