Moving advice?

I'm looking for some advice on the best way to move my LBGE. It currently sits in a table. I have a truck rented with another guy, possibly two helping. Going about 90 miles.
If I loosened the top band completely, could I just lift the dome out? I'm thinking with the dome off and guts out it may be easily movable? I'd rather not disassemble the whole thing if that's possible.

If you want to remove the dome you need to use wire ties to hold the hinge in place or remove the springs.

I think I would start by removing the innards (fire box, ring) and see if you and your buddies can carry it in the table.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

@RRog17 , you moving up this way like you were talking about at BB?

Not sure if you noticed the way I came to BB or not, but I just put both Eggs on my trailer with them in the tables and secured with straps.  I don't think I did anything to the inner parts either.

I would leave the top on but remove innards or at lease wrap so they don't bounce around. Strap the dome closed so it doesn't bounce around. People move them all the time strapped in a seatbelt. You should be fine.

I've been hauling my XLs on a flatbed trailer....both ways. Sometimes I take out the inside ceramics and just strap the shell in place....and sometimes when I leave an event, I just leave everything intact and strap in place.  I haven't had anything break or crack, yet.   But I drive carefully and have not had to go more than 15 miles oneway.

I usually hold my breath the whole way though !!!

Yes, going to Greensboro. I did see what you did. I just don't know if we could lift it all up into a U-Haul truck.

i take the springs off (easy to do if someone holds the dome open), loosen dome strap then corrugated cardboard between  dome and base and under base for shock protection. i fill the egg with lump to help keep the innards from jumping around. strap down tightly

I have also brought both Eggs home in the front seat of an SUV.  Guts were removed then though.

Easier to remove table top then deal with egg. Once top is off, its right there. Same as putting it back. Then re-attach top.
  • @RRog17: Have moved a Mini Max, Med and Large on separate occasions both by myself and with a friend. I would advise to take the dome off when moving the Large. Not only will it make it lighter (moving in pieces), but more importantly, the lack of some means that you can grip the ridge of the base when taking it out of/putting it in a table. To save space and help protect the internals, take an old bed sheet and layer it in between your internals. That way, you can stack them for transport (thus saving room and protecting them). Have moved four different Eggs in various scenarios (back of a large truck, in the seat of a small car, etc.) without incident.

Did not this time but in past vacation at least 4 times trips TX to Seaside, FL 800 miles each way.
I slip cardboard inntween the guts and outer shell. Lay a peace of cardboard between the lid and bottom. Strap it in and go. No problem ever.
Also when we move Eggs at a fest we just load on a trailer and drive careful about two miles (that is 40 eggs times 5 years and no problem with no cardboard ).
Salado TX & 30A  FL: Egg Family: 3 Large and a very well used Mini, added a Mini Max when they came out (I'm good for now). Just given another Mini to add to the herd.

I cut cardboard into sizes similiar to a largepaperback book.  Placed 4-5 pieces between firebowl and floor, firebowl and fire ring, and firering and base.

Wedge them between the parts, the base, and the next part.  I have KABs in my MM and medium, and removed the firegrate from my XL.  Everything made the trip from IL to Az in one piece.  I also have handlers on my medium and XL.
