Tim has some interesting vids on curing, smoking.  Remember watching him talk to a good ol' Kentucky boy on the history of curing.

That's awesome. Wonder what my neighbors would think in suburban NJ!

    Boy, that brought back memories.

Back in another life I actually participated in this.  I was way too young to actually do anything, but I was both required and fascinated enough to watch the process.  It’s pretty gross to a youngster like me.

That was my first and last time.

If you’re wondering when, it was probably around 1944 or 1945.  I was about 4 years old, but I remember it just like it happened yesterday.  I can even smell the smoke from the fire, and hear the sound the guts made when they ‘slushed’ out into a galvanized tub.

Back then, any self-respecting country boy needed to learn this very early on.  I tried but never wanted to even be around it.  Once was enough.

People nowadays have life pretty easy.

    Thanks for sharing it.
