Pepper (and Salt) Mill suggestions?
I've been considering getting a decent Pepper (and maybe salt) mill.
I was excited when reading on TNW site about Cozy Crafted Pepper mills but they don't seem to be available anymore.
Was told to look into Crush Grind as they have the same ceramic mechanisms as CC and are well made in Denmark.
Anyone have any experience with CrushGrind Pepper Mills?
I know many love their Unicorn Magnums, Cole and Mason, Peugeot but have never used any of them myself.
Guess I want one that is durable, easy to fill, easy to use ad easy to set at a consistent grind. Oh and not too expensive.
Lastly, is a salt mill really needed?
Thanks for any help on this widely talked about topic it;'s just most reviews are not very recent.

have a small set of perfex mills pepper and salt, sits on mmy tv side table, like the set. kitchen i use an old atlas mill for pepper. camp i buy the cheap mccormick plastic seasalt mill, salt is salt, not like the pepper choices where one wants a particular pepper. the salt one is not needed but having a bin of kosher next to the stove all the time the salt mill comes in handy at the table. its hard for me to justify buying expensive salts, they all taste like saltfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I use my Cole and Mason grinders all the time. I really wish I'd gotten a battery powered version that I could use one handed.

Love my Cole & Mason also, and it's tops at Cook's Illustrated.
No, you don't need a salt mill. Salt is a rock and doesn't age if you break it down. Get a salt pig instead:

I just bought these Cole and Mason. I bought the set. I like the adjustment for the size of the grind and I believe that the salt has ceramic grinder blades.

Salt mill is debatable. Mine was getting little use until I realized I liked white pepper as well as black. Now both get used equally which is a lot.

This has been my way for salt for several years and works fine.
- This pepper mill is 20 years old and used every day.
- Not sure how I got those damn numbers. Sorry.

oncs you go with the unicorn brand pepper mill you will be done. There is nothing else.
I have and like the matching salt mill. No one "needs" a salt mill... -
Here is my stupid question...for this morning. Is a mill different from a grinder ??
I just have salt and pepper grinders and the openings are on the top of the containers when they sit on the counter. This keeps the salt/pepper from making a mess on the counter when not in use !
I'll try to research mill vs grinder definitions !!!!!Donnie Dawes - RNNL8 BBQ - Carrollton, KY

I don't have any experience w. the names @Legally Blind Egghead mentioned. I've had an old style Peugeot for close to 40 years. Still works fine. Last Christmas I bought one of their Mahe U' Select stainless steel pepper mills for my daughter and SIL. It adjusts to 6 different grinds. They have 2 friends who are chefs, and both said they wished they had one.
I don't see a lot of use for a salt grinder. I suppose if all you have on hand is coarse finishing salt, it would be handy to make some finer for general cooking. Seems cheaper and more convenient to just have fine and coarse on hand.

Love my Unicorn Magnum. It really slings the pepper.
Just get a container to hold kosher salt. No grinder required.------------------------------
