Well, yesterday I got the wild hair to make the tomatoe pie I posted. I was running behind and was rushing to do that and get dinner cooked.
I was making some rice, sous vide carrots, and had chicken tenderloins on the medium.
The crust I made for the tomatoe pie. I stuck a skillet on my crust for weight because I didn't have any dried beans. Good idea with the pan.
Crust was done and I pull it out. No problem. I turn around , do something for the rice, and turn back around to remove the pan and didn't have a towel over it like normal. I grab the pan, pick it up, and I knew it was bad. Dropped the SOB ASAP and hit the fridge for mustard. Squirted mustard all over my hand because I didn't know where all I burned myself.
Hurt a little, but kept the mustard fresh on it. Never blistered beyond this picture and it doesn't hurt and isn't sore.
It's been a while since I've burned myself. I like to think I know my way around a kitchen, this brings you to reality quickly.
Keep your focus boys. Our hobby is and can be dangerous.
What's weird about the picture is the mustard stained the places where I was burned mostly.

Ouch....bet it didn't take you long to figure out you had done wrong though. Those blisters will be more of a nuisance that painful for a week or two. I did something similar a few weeks back....thumb only tough. Be careful where you stick that hand for a while.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

For 6.5 years I worked in a restaurant. Got burnt a lot there as it was a seafood restaurant.
Everyone swore to put mustard on the burns immediately. Usually the blister will grow right after it happened, but not with the mustard.------------------------------

Honestly, I have full functionality of the hand right now. The blisters aren't that large. In fact, I gave my little girl a bath last night.------------------------------

I hope you are right handed. Doesn't look too bad. Good thing we have mono-synapic responses or it would be worse.

Glad it wasn't worse and thanks for the reminder. I once went to pull a pizza out of the oven. Opened the oven door with the glove hand and grabbed the pizza pan with my bare hand ...not sure why. Wasn't too bad but wish I would've known about the mustard trick at the time. From then on I've used gloves on both hands.Large - Mini - Blackstone 17", 28", 36"

Burns like that are so strange. They hurt like you will die all night, then in the morning it's just some blisters and no residual pain. So strange!!! Glad you didn't get it any worse. Cast Iron skillets are my bain. I have burnt myself more times than I care to admit with a similar action.XL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum

Focus is key ....
Worst burn I ever had was a cherry red electric coil burner on a stove. It was on a center island. I went to lean back while talking and set my hand smack in the middle of it. Pretty cool spiral burn pattern across my whole hand.
I use honey for burns, but will try mustard next time.Maybe your purpose in life is only to serve as an example for others? - LPL
