Maximum # Pork Butts on LG BGE?
Will 2 x 9.5lb pork butts fit a Lg BGE?
Doing a cook for family gathering at the cottage (Lg BGE) and am wondering if I should cook it there...... or at home (XL BGE)
Any suggestions?

I have egged 4 8-9lb. butts on a Large.Happily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

It will fit fine. I've done 3 eight pounders and could have fit another on.Narcoossee, FL

Your cook will not be a problem, one suggestion thou .. make sure you have a drip pan large enough to hold all the drippings. There's gonna be quite a bit.I've slow smoked and eaten so much pork, I'm legally recognized as being part swine - Chatsworth Ca.

Sorry, I couldn't find a pic to show you. When you egg 4 at once, you kind of stand them up on their side, and it's fine if they touch each other. They shrink up anyway, as yours have. I can see you easily have room for 2 more on there.

This one was done at 205 around 18-19 hours.
Once the stall is over, I bump it up to 240 with 5 degree interval every 30 minutes. That's to minimize the risk of billowing smoke. Keep it constant blue smoke.
FYI -- I've found that cooking more than 2 or 3 on the grid would be best to keep it low and slow. Fat dripping will produce some bitter flavor with higher heat. No matter how big your drip pan. It'll drip around and react with hot coal. I do not like fat smoke taste.
If you ask... that's my large.

Impressive... 6 on a BGE!! ....and totally agree, if I wanted burnt fat smoke flavour I'd use a gasser.
After 16 hrs, butts are looking very happy.After 18 hours on and 3 hours resting.... finally reached Pork Perfection! -
