Grandmas coming for dinner

Sitting in the sun, drinking a few Steamwhistle and making chicken for my Mom. 
Making peri peri chicken with the sauce sent to @jstroke in the elf exchange and one with the fantastic Everglades rub from @greedygoat. We did two birds last week with that and it's fantastic. Mom can't take much heat so it's good to have an option. 
Trying hoppin John and the foil packs are beets from the garden. Life is good.

Sorry. No finished. Neighbor kid was also alone for dinner so he came too and the there was beer and another beer and then some beer and I didn't get a plated picture. 
It was good though and the hoopin John was quite nice (Southern living take on Sean Brock recipe which I then did differently).

It's nice to have enough to take in an extra guest. We occasionally take in stray kids when we cook. The egg seems to draw them in. I never turn any away. You never know if they are getting enough to eat at home.
