Maple Leaf Lump - Sale @ Lowes

Happy Canada Day fellow Canucks!!
Saw a post about the Costco shortage of Basques and thought I'd share that Maple Leaf is on sale at Lowes this week for $14.99/8kg bag.! Seems to still be a decent stock in the Ottawa area and I haven't seen it cheaper than $16 unless buying in bulk! Gonna stock up tomorrow!!

Thanks for the heads up, as well as for sharing on the basis of my previous post! This is what the community is all about.K_Rock said:Happy Canada Day fellow Canucks!!

Very cool. That actually makes it cheaper than Costco!

@K_Rock: Thanks again. Just grabbed 10 bags (as much as I could fit into my small car with family in tow!).

I ordered 7 bags for in store pickup, also signed up for their sales email and got another 10 bucks off as per suggestion above. $104 taxes in for the 7 bags.Large BGEBBQ Guru DigiQ IIMartensville, Saskatchewan Canada

My son and daughter in law were in Ottawa this weekend visiting her family so he picked me up four bags. I asked him to check for Basque's at Costco first but they were out.MMBGE / Large BGE / XL BGE (Craigslist Find) / SF30x80 cabinet trailer - "Ol' Mortimer" / Outdoor kitchen in progress.

@CTMike IMHO, Maple Leaf is better than Basques so it's probably better like that.CTMike said:My son and daughter in law were in Ottawa this weekend visiting her family so he picked me up four bags. I've tried both and IMO, they are quite similar. As previously mentioned though, the Basque features a lot of crumbs as of late (which is why I was willing to pick up 10 bags of Maple Leaf!).paqman said: -

@CTMike @GrateEggspectations My problem with Basques is that it often contains pieces of wood/bark that is not fully carbonized. Sure it smells good when you start it but you also get white smoke forever when compared to Maple Leaf. Don't take me wrong, it is a fantastic lump... But not as good as Maple Leaf if you ask me.
The pictures below are from my current batch of Basques.

Maple lump is very brittle. Both brands have issues with chips and dust. I've given-up on both and use KJ Lump from Lowe's, Que from Superstore, Fogo and Kebroak from Amazon.2x Kamado Joe Big Joes + Cyber Q Wifi + Themapen - Pizza Steel + BGE Paella Pan + BGE Ash Tools + Woo2 + Open Bar Fire Ring

Never, ever had this problem with Basques. And have only had the odd small rock once or twice. Luck of the draw, I guess!paqman said:@CTMike @GrateEggspectations My problem with Basques is that it often contains pieces of wood/bark that is not fully carbonized.
