2 Boston Butts

I'm wanting to do 2 Boston butts for a big cookout this weekend. I have an XL grill. Im good at doing 1 butt. I set it on 250-275 degrees for about 1:30 hours per pound. Just wondering how long and what temp I need to do if I do 2 10 pound butts?

The two butts are separate entities, so the same rules apply as far a cooking time. However, one butt may finish a good hour or two before the other. That's been my experience when doing multiple butts. My advice would be to start early and you can always FTC until you're ready to eat.

Agreed...  if you have an extra temp probe, stick one in each butt.

If the butts are not touching, cooking times shouldn't change.  If you have them leaning on each other it may take longer.  But you have an XL, so I don't see that being an issue.  Fire it up!

I'll give you general times (yours may vary) I just did this same exact cook. Put my butts on @ 10pm temp was @ 240-250 ... woke up in the morning (8am), butts were @ 160 or so.

    Finally hit 200 @ 1pm ... probed. Done. 15 hrs.

even crammed together, they won't affect cook time.  feel free to toss three or four on there touching if need be.

as @tarheelmatt mentions though, recovery time (dome thermometer returning to the original target temp) is a little longer with three or four butts on there. but with two, not so much.
