Alinement issue

I just bought my XL and while me and my little cousin were putting it together I noticed that when we were don't the dome is sitting back about a 1/8 of a inch maybe a little more then the bottom. The seal looks good just wondering if I should try and fix this. I did loosing the bolts and try to push it forward but it never really moved much. My little cousin tightened the top bolt first before the bottom and I think it should have been done the other way. Also he wrenched down on them pretty good, enough for them to bend more then I liked. Was kind of aggravated but what could I tell someone trying to help.

This is extremely common.  Its called overbite (or underbite).  Your 1/8" isn't too bad.  There is a lot written about it here, and there is a < 1 minute video on youtube about fixing it the conventional way; through resetting the bands.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB93N7Dp2RI
and another 6 minute one that is a more aggressive approach, adding 2 washers in the band fasteners to push/pull it where you need the dome to go. I think this is for the older style egg hinges, so it might not work the same way for a new egg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71Jplxn4yAg

Search for overbite here, or big green egg & overbite on google; you will find lots to read.

Frankly I read a lot about it, and did what they pretty much all the 'reset the bands" say.  Using the orange wedges that come with the egg helped some also.
All told I reduced my overbite, but didn't really fix it.  In the end I calmed down and went with Mickey's suggestion: it will be fine.

You are talking about the band bolts being bent? If so, they are supposed to be bent...that is how you know they are tight. If it really bothers you go to any hardware store and pick up a couple of 5/16 NC Carriage bolts...

I think they must be grade 5. Very critical.

I have never achieved perfect seating with the dome on my XL. The best I can get is a little less than 1/8".

It doesn't leak and the gasket isn't frying, so I'm happy.
