Table nest, necessary?

My friend is installing a large egg in his new outdoor set-up. The dealer says he doesn't need a table test. I have a table nest for my XL (it is housed in a cedar table unit). I thought the table nest created better air flow hence better temp control; however, I'm still a BGE newbie as of January of this year. Here is the pic before the finish work, but y'all get the idea. So, is the nest really necessary? Is the dealer just a BGE rookie?? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

If it is on a flammable material, it's cheap insurance against a fire. If not, no effect on cooking.

It's my belief that it also helps keep the bottom of the egg cooler (relatively) and help guard against breakage.

I agree with the above comment about air under the egg. I would also offer that it makes cleaning the ash out of the egg easier to do. You can slide a dust pan right under the egg if it's in a table nest. Just be sure to orient the legs to the side of the egg and not right in the front.
