OT: Side Burner ?

Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with something like these propane side burners?
I've attached just a couple pics I clipped from Amazon as example.

My uses are to expand my outdoor kitchen options as well as I like the idea of portability.
It would sit on my egg table, or campground table.

I am more interested in quality function over a specific design. What is "the best brand" recommendation?
Two burners preferred, but not required if I can possibly hook up two single units.

Thank you!

I have been using a portable burner like the second one pictured for a few weeks. I've used it to make rice several times and used it last night to make risotto. I have been happy with the fuel efficiency and the performance so far. I haven't had it long enough to comment on durability.

"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

I use one like the second one pictured all the time.  Works great for quick heating a CI pan to sear a steak after sous vide.  I also use when I want to fry anything to keep the oil smell and splatters out of the house.  Great for heating sauces. They are less than $20 at Wally World.  Only issue is they are Butane, not Propane, which can be hard to find. I usually pick up a few cans whenever I see it.  I've had it for about 2 years now with no issues, used a couple of times a month.

Why not go for an induction cooktop burner?  If you are using a CI pan to sear, that's a perfect combination!  You'd have to use a genny to take it camping, but that'd be the only drawback.....

I've got a gas burner on the side of my cast iron seasoning center (gasser)

I don't ever use it.  Like @DaveRichardson said, induction was the way to go for me.  An induction burner pared with a CI dutch oven is a perfect deep fry set up.  Very safe

@Tjcoley - You can get a case of 12 of the butane cans for fairly cheap at The Restaurant Store. There's one in Lancaster and Wyomising.

I agree with the induction. You can also use itminside if range space, is at a premium during holiday meals etc.

Thanks @DMW There's a Restaurant Store right here in Camp Hill.  Never looked there for the Butane.

BTW: there is a The Restaurant Store on Simpson Ferry Road in Camp Hill. They also sell the burners, starting at $11.

  • Can those butane burners be converted to use a propane tank?
