Bluetooth thermometer

I've been struggling trying to find the right product online, so I figured I'd ask the experts. Eggsperts?? Sorry - I don't know if I'm too new here to use bad puns yet...
So what I'm looking for is a bluetooth grid and meat thermometer that will link with my iPhone. I like to smoke my Boston butts at 275, so I would like for it to alarm me when the temp gets below, say, 260 or above 290. And, of course, to alarm me when the butt hits 200.
What I'm having trouble with, though, is making sure that the alarms will go off even when the phone - and I - are asleep. It seems that some of them require you to unlock your phone and open the app to check temps, which just defies the purpose of a good bluetooth thermometer IMO. I'd like for it to alert me without having to unlock my phone.
Any good suggestions out there? Thanks in advance.

Checkout iGrill 2 thermometer. You can download the free app on your iPhone and it has an alarm function on it that notifies that your food is (almost) ready. I'm sure there are other products with this functionality in the market - I only have xp with Igrill.
Cheers

FYI on the iGrill2 after reading reviews people love it but the probes do not last long (no context on how they are used hot and fast or low and slow) and they are $25 a pop, I assume this is because Weber took over iGrill.

I would look at the one Thermoworks offers. Although I have not personally tried the Bluetooth one yet, their products are hands down more durable and more accurate than any of the others I have used.

I have a maverick 735, and it works well; however with Bluetooth the range is limited to about 75-100 feet (clear view). I would highly recomend al model that's not Bluetooth ie et 733 or 732XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

No, the Weber purchase has not had any impact on the probes yet. Price is the same. The durability, or not, of the probes has not changed with the Weber ownership.OpusXcellent said:FYI on the iGrill2 after reading reviews people love it but the probes do not last long (no context on how they are used hot and fast or low and slow) and they are $25 a pop, I assume this is because Weber took over iGrill.
I have replaced the two original probes I had with my unit (within 18 months - first was within warranty). Normally cook 350º or less. Never exceeded the temp ratings for the probes. I have other brands of probes that also failed. It seems that the probes are an issue with several brands.Southeast Florida - LBGE

I am thinking about building a heatermeter. Anything with wifi or Mav 732/733 will have better range than Bluetooth.

Thanks so much for all the comments and advice. I've read about the relatively poor range on the bluetooth - I have a wireless thermometer which works well, but doesn't sync with my phone. Can any of the wireless ones do this?LBGE - Athens, Georgia

The Maverick 732 works well. Granted, it doesn't link to my cell phone; but, the receiver has alarms and is small/portable in a pocket with good range throughout my house.Low Country EggHead

I have had mavericks in the past, and as of right now ,I only have enough left of the last three of them to use it as a dome sensor. I have been using a single probe igrill mini with it for food temps for low and slow. I have not had any probe problems with low and slows. However , anything above that has resulted in probe failures for me in the past. For hotter cooks I now just use a Thermapen type thermometer. Also , I think the dishwasher killed one of my probes. I also have a four probe igrill2 that I have not used yet , since my half maverick and mini are doing the job just fine for now. The igrill2 was $69.00 on the Bay. Bluetooth is what it is , but fits my needs.......
More meat please !! :-) -
I use my Igrill mini for most of the cooks. I use one for grid temp and the other for meat temp. Connects easily with their app. Easy to change settings on the fly. Data logging exists, but is erased as soon as you power off, all volatile memory.

Thanks again. I'm going to look closer at the Maverick and the iGrill. I'm a little worried that the bluetooth won't reach from my grill to my bed for overnight cooks, though...LBGE - Athens, Georgia

I get a strong signal from my iGrill2 for over 100' in open areas. I have no problems from the egg out on the back patio into the house going through one wall (cement block). Two walls is a problem for me - can't go out into the front yard without signal issues.SulcusGroove said:Thanks again. I'm going to look closer at the Maverick and the iGrill.
