Chicken quarters in beer marinade

Trying out a beer marinade I found online.  Raised direct just shy of 400 deg.  The last couple of raised direct cooks have resulted in over-charred bottoms, so I tried to spread the lump more thinly this time...  Hopefully it works out better this time...

Looks awesome.  I do EVERYTHING raised grid for the specific purpose of avoiding the charred bottom problem you referenced.

How did it turn out? I was looking for a chicken marinade last night and stumbled on that site and remembered you linking to it so I decided to give it a shot (gonna grill them tonight). I didn't have white onion, so I went with red cuz I had it on hand. Also used Italian parsley as that's what I had on hand. NO mention of what kind of beer to use. The only thing in my beer fridge that looked suitable was a Tecate that somebody left so in it went. Thought the marinade was bland to my taste to added in 2 tsp of hot sauce. Looking forward to seeing how it is.

I've used this many time and it comes out great. It comes from a Raichlen cookbook.

It always bothers me when somebody just says beer. Or dark beer. A stout? A porter? What about a Dunkel or a Schwarzbier or a Bock? A coffee or a chocolate? How about just tell me what dark beer you used and I can find a substitute that is similar if the kind you used is not available in my area. I'm not referencing you @NonaScott , but the authors of these recipes. Just a pet peeve of mine.

I decided to go with Tecate because it was the lightest beer in my beer fridge besides a Coors Light and that wouldn't have brought anything to the table. I didn't want to go with one of my homebrews or an IPA or a black ale. I figured all the other beers in my fridge would probably overpower everything else.  That or I just want to drink them and not cook with them.

I understand what you are saying. I really don't like beer very much except if it is very hot out and I'm on the boat then it's Miller lite for me. For recipes if it says beer I use bud. If it says dark beer I use amberbock. Ones light color and the other is dark color.
