I bought a WSKO and find it easier and faster than my Edge Pro deluxe. It creates a sharper longer lasting edge is a LOT less expensive.

I thought the Workshop only went down to a 15 degree bevel? If I recall, the Edge Pro can go even lower. Thus scratch still itches for me, so I've been wanting to get one.

The WSKO does only go down to 15, my unit will 'dial' down to 14. I have not found that a narrower, thus more fragile edge, benefits my needs.

The Edge Pro can go to zero if you want.

Cool, cool. I have a local knife shop that I get my blades sharpened at for 2 bucks per knife(which is why this is still an itch). I keep my Japanese knives at 10 degrees. Not fragile at all, but then again, they never go near bone or anything else that's extremely hard.

    Incorrect. WSKO goes to 10.

Awesome! Their website says 15-30 but pics show it down to 10.

Edit: with an 80 dollar accessory it will, base model is 15 degrees. Still, that's half the price of the Edge Pro.

I forgot I added that.  I leave it in all the time and have been using it for so long I totally forgot that was with the blade grinding attachment.

  • The only real major drawback to the Ken Onion grinder is the stractchng up of the blade from the angle gaurds.  You have to put tape over the top of the blade to prevent scratching.  I find it doesn't work well for high end Japanese blades.  The convexing actually ruins the edge on high-end knives.  I don't think it was designed for those kinds of knives.

The Wicked Edge is easier to use than the edge pro.  You don't have to flatten or replace stone like the Edge pro.

They could simply put a backing plate on and the convex issue would go away....however I think angle precision would become more important.  The slop makes it more effective with even sharpening.

Whether stones need occasional flattening or not depends on the type of stone not the type of sharpener. You can get diamond plate stones for the Edge Pro if one doesn't want to ever be bothered with the minor task of flattening stones.

Wicked Edge also sells some ceramic stones and those may eventually require flattening.

With the blade grinding attachment there are no angle guards.  Also, I have had no issue with my Masamotos VG series.
