I don't normally see tri-tips here, but enough TDYs to Vandenberg AFB got me hooked on SM 'que, so I grabbed a package when I saw them yesterday. Picked the windiest day of the year to grill (80+ mph at the canyon mouths) but Mr. Egg worked fine. Sprinkled them with Suzie Q's seasoning (available in central-coast CA, don't know if you can get it anywhere else) and served with french-cut green beans (out of the traditional pinquito beans), sourdough garlic toast, and fresh strawberries macerated in turbinado sugar and a splash of Marsala for dessert.
Took the first bite of steak and my dental bridge came off, oh Bother! Still tasted pretty good.
(I gotta figure out what's up with the color balance on my camera...)

Looks great there, can't beat a good Santa Maria Q . I've got a pkg of cut tri tip steaks in the frig right now. My go to though is whole tri tip and Costco here in CA always has great tri tip and prime too (even though they needle tenderize them).LBGE - I like the hot stuff. Only been 2 years since I 1st saw tri-tips where I live. I have to admit, I was a little dubious about Santa Maria 'Q. But its really easy and good. Not quite a steak primal, but a big hunk of tasty and tender beef.
