Deep Fry in the Egg

I have a lodge 7qt DO...I've never done oil deep fry before. Is it pretty easy to run peanut oil at 350 for some chicken fried steak? Lid closed or open with bottom vent barely open? I was thinking of just filling up 1/3 of the DO.
Any insight would be much appreciated!

probably not the most recommended thing
bring egg quickly up to about 700, open dome and close bottom vent completely, wait 20 minutes until fire subsides, then fry. have only done this with a wok and have a cover standing buy to snuff a flame. dont open and close a dome with hot oil in there, leave it open. probably not the most recommended thing. probably not the most recommended thing
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
A portable induction burner would be safer, and offer more precise temp control. Thats how I do it, my 2 cents.

I use the side burner on my gasser or the kitchen stove for that.Narcoossee, FL

Every time I see someone mention that, I think of a turkey fryer fire.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Nuwave $100 induction eye. I love that thing. More accurate and quick recovery

You can find an induction unit for about 60-70 bucks at Sams.... Otherwise you are looking at a helluva fire if you get any oil spillover!

It can be done. We fried all day long on 3 eggs at Eggtoberfest. You need a mature fire, meaning glowing coals and no flame. I use an IR gun to temp my oil. Leave the lid closed and check every 1 minute intervals.
***PLEASE exercise extreme caution when trying this*** -
Being possible and being advisable are very different things. Glad to hear you are picking up an induction burner. I don't think there is a better more economical solution.
If you really want to get into deep frying look into getting a R&V Works 6 Gallon Deep fryer. I suggest the 6 gallon so you can do a turkey in there. http://www.cajunfryer.com/CajunFryer.htmlXL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum -
Nuwave will be here Thursday

Thanks everyone for the suggestion! It's going to be a great toy.
Broke it in with some homestyle fries with coconut oil!

I deep fry in my medium regularly. I use a wok and my woo. I can close the lid and snuff everything out if it goes sideways.
I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Nope. I use only a few cups of oil in a wok. Never tried anything larger than small fish filets, pickles, or fries.
When I have larger things I use my 30Qt stock pot and a propane burner. Again, no whole birds of any sort.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.
