Bench Project.....

I acquired this bench from a businesswoman in town (Fort Worth, TX) who said it was stationed downtown until the late 60's. I had the frame ends and pieces powder coated and added all new stainless steel hardware. I cut and rounded the edges for the white oak slats. The sanding process was pretty extensive as there were 4 coats of varnish applied. I used 220 grit in between each coat of varnish.

Most importantly, I got to work in the shop a little bit with my 85 year old grandfather and my dad. I am really pleased with how this turned out. Thanks for letting me share.

No offense but that is no antique per see. I have the very same bench. It was made in China and I only paid $40 brand new.

Mine belonged to my father in law, we brought it out in a container from South Africa when we moved here 15 years ago.

Plus the most important part was him being able to work with his Dad and Grandfather on this project.  Doesn't sound like he's trying to make a flip on Pickers or anything...

Questions about the powder coating. Did you sand blast it first or did "they" do that for you? Also where are powder coaters listed in the phone book? And lastly if I may be so brazen to ask - how much did that cost?

I had it blasted and coated by a local powder shop. I had it done in 2013 and it cost 125, cash. I sat on the pieces for a while, obviously, before I got to the slats. The powder shop had a location with a very visible sign on my route to church. I stopped in one day and took a look at some of their work and set it up. I'm sure you could easily find a good shop in the phone book or off google.
