Anyone build their own Egg-Mates?

I've been looking at egg-mates for my XL and I'm considering building some myself.   The current ones don't look like they have that much room, and look fairly simple to build.

We're moving pretty soon or else I'd consider getting a table.   Has anyone built their own egg-mates and have any plans or ideas??

I've got some mates on my large that I bought used from someone on CL.  They are OK, but I am looking to replace the wooden slats.  Its the skinny slat model.  I was thinking about doing a piece of cement backer board and then a thin tile of Granite.....

I'm thinking the same thing Dave.  I may run to Home Depot and see what I could potentially piece together to do this.

When my wood slats are done ,I'm thinking about using some of that composite decking material to replace it.....If I can find it thin enough.

I replaced my old wood slats with larger Bamboo cutting boards and have been very happy with them. I coated them with a spray poly and did not get it thick enough layer and after about 3 years in the damp NC mountains they now have mold in the grain. Someday I will bleach, sand and recoat.
