Need Information for a Granite Top

In the process of a build for my large and I'm leaning towards a granite top.
Anyone who has done one have any information on how much support I need to provide?  I tend to over build things a bit because I want it rock solid and to last a long time.
I'm guessing 16" on center would be overkill.  Anyone with some practical experience or recommendations from a granite installer?

24" OC is fine. 16 will work too. What's your depth?

Thinking I'll keep the depth at 15 1/4" or slightly more.  That is the current set up and its seems to be working fine.

I have one on a stainless restaurant piece. it's quite long and they did it in two pieces. it had a stainless top but they told me 3/4"ply was enough. That would be specially true if it was under 4 feet.

    15 1/4" sounds very narrow.

For your support question think about the way a kitchen is designed.  Most cabs are either 18 - 21-24-30 or 36" cabinets. On a 36" sink base the granite is supported on front and back rails(24") and side walls that are 36" apart.  With 24oc you are golden. When you secure the stone to the table base use dollops of silicone. Just enough to hold it in place but not be crazy tight to the wood that will shrink and grow during the different seasons.  You want the top to be secure but somewhat independent of the structure.  You don't want the moving wood to stress the stone.

Thanks for the reply.  The 15 1/4" is from the support shelf to the surface top of the granite that I'm shooting for.  This is my current distance and I want to make sure the lid will clear no problem.  The width of the top base is 27" so with overhang I'm thinking about 30" wide for the granite top.  Overall length will be 92 1/4" plus a 3" overhang again.  Plan to match the roughly 20" hole for the egg itself.
It's obviously going to be a fairly large table which is what prompted my question re: the support.

Sounds to me like your plan is golden.
