My momma stopped by to say hello today.

She died a couple of years ago this coming July.
Her oldest sister, my aunt, and the oldest of the eight siblings died the other day and the funeral was today. There are only four of them left now. Saw some cousins I had not seen since my momma's funeral, and one I had not seen in about 40 years.
Came home and decided to mow the lawn. It did not really need it as I had mowed just a few days ago, but felt like yard work would be therapeutic. As I pushed the mower, not really into it but just going through the motions, I glanced down to the side of the lawn where I had planted a little potted plant from my momma's funeral. It did not thrive and has never bloomed. I figure I did not water it enough when I first planted it a couple of Julys ago.
Don't know why I even looked that way, but there it was, and it was in bloom! A small, little nondescript, scraggly looking thing with a couple of pink and white blooms just starting to open up. I stopped the mower and went over and sat down and had a good cry. So she knew I was thinking about her and she popped in to say hello.
With tear-filled eyes, I told her the weather was nice and sunny, with just a bit of a breeze and lots of pollen and said, "How are things up there?" already knowing the answer. Of course, it is glorious up there.
"Tell Grandad and Granny hello if you are not too busy reminiscing with aunt Betty," I whispered as I went back to the yard work.

I'm sorry my friend. I look at things like that differently now too, since my mom's passing.
My Mom always told me that Cardinals are a sign a loved one is with you. Butterflies the same. I cannot see one of those without stopping me in my tracks and talk to her and my dad.
Glad you found peace in that mowing my friend.------------------------------

So sorry @epcotisbest, a good reason for a family reunion. We've had a lot of relatives pass in the last few years, and it's obvious we all need to get together again. I think signs are everywhere if we just look for them.

OK fighting back the tears..
My Mom died a few years ago. About a month or two after she died I had a dream where she showed up at my house mad as hell. She was a Sicilian woman, so you get the depth of mad. I said "Mom, you are supposed to be dead!" She said "yes, I am but I heard about Nick (my nephew) getting a divorce and how his wife is treating him and I am mad as hell!"
Believe it or not it made me laugh...so Mom! I really miss her, but things like that bring some comfort. Thanks for sharing.

Thought I would go ahead and bump this one. I did go by and say hello to her today. Took the rake and smoothed out the gravel and pulled some weeds while I was at the grave site. Not an easy day.

Thanks for sharing, @epcotisbest it helps me to know I'm not the only one who struggles with this from time to time.
In June, it will be 12 years since I lost my Mom. Mother's Day has always been the hardest day of the year for me. This whole weekend was very painful, the most pain I've felt in probably 10 yrs, and have no idea why.
