I am a big fan of Nathan's links. In fact, have some in the frig now. It has been a little disappointing over the last year  or so ......as the size seems to be shrinking a bit....while they more or less keep the price stable. Kind of like what the ice cream distributors have been doing for some time now. I make a good hot dog chili and of course slather mine with coleslaw.....no longer can use Chick-Fil-A slaw though....which was my favorite.  :s

Nathan's are my go to dog as well.  I am doing low carb and the other day I ate a Nathan's dog omelette for lunch.  As gross as that sounds...it was actually damn good.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I've never tried the Hebrew National.  Are they similar to one another?

The heebs are good but they are even smaller than nathans.  On a standard bun the dog to bun ratio is lacking.   I only get them if I can find the jumbo.

My favorite hot dogs are from Flint, Michigan, of all places, Koegel's "Vienna" hot dogs with a natural casing.  Many years ago I really think I'm remembering correctly that national hot dog makers SUED the State of Michigan to force them to LOWER their standards for what kind of crap could not be allowed in hot dogs, ... and WON.  But Koegel's still has super high quality meat going in those things.  They're very mildly spiced, not super garlicky like the kosher hot dogs tend to be, and they're just really good tasting hot dogs.

I also love Hebrew Nationals and Nathan's -- I think Hebrew Nationals are my favorites locally.  Really dislike Oscar Mayer's, but Ball Park's are OK with me.

    Boars Head

I too prefer Boars Head! And to think for a couple years I was ordering the popular Pearl's brand from out East and paying a chunk of change for S & H. Then suddenly I couldn't stand those Pearl's anymore and donated 5 packages to a food bank.

I agree on the Boars Head.  Nathan's are our usual because they are easy to find and cheaper, but BH dogs are the best I have had.

Our local Ingles sells Boars Head.  I will definitely have to give them a try.

It's hard to go wrong with Nathans.
My favorite is the Vienna beef. They are probably no better than Nathans, but I can't get Vienna beef here. That automatically makes them more desirable. I always want what I cant get.

I love the poppy seeded buns, but sadly they can't be had in this area.

Unless that is a very new product offering then yes I have. I have no trouble spending good money for great tasting casing franks as I love them. I have bought many brands around the area and have not found many I like. HyVee sells a brand made in IA that's not bad, but honestly even the skinless Boars Head dogs beat them. Guess I'll have to go buy some at Alwans and so I thank you.

Had some Hebrew Nationals last night.  I love a classic slaw dog.  If you wanna try something a little different, try simmering them in beer and then finish them off on the egg.  It imparts great flavor.  I don't usually boil/simmer meats, but this is only a hot dog.   ;)

I'm not familiar with "Vienna Beef," but I think many people use "Vienna" to mean hot dogs with a natural casing, so there's a bit of a "snap" when you bite into them.  I'd guess the "Vienna Beef" dogs you're talking about are all-beef hot dogs with a natural casing, but I don't know.  I'm sure they're not the same, as Koegel Viennas, anyway, which I'm pretty sure have pork and beef in them.

And I was born and raised in Flint, but I haven't actually lived there for many decades, I'm afraid. I live in North Carolina, now, but am still nostalgic for the State of my birth.  When I was a boy in the '50s and '60s, Flint was a wonderful place!  It was a factory town, but a BUSTLING, vibrant factory town, with what I read, once, was the highest standard of living for blue collar labor in the history of the WORLD.  But maybe that's part of why it died -- became too expensive to build cars there, so the factories moved away, and half the town is boarded up, now.  It breaks my heart to read about what's going on there, these days.  Just tragic, children paying the price for politician's decisions.

I haven't been back to Flint since my Dad died many years ago, now, but every time I went back, and I mean every time, I'd always get at least a couple of Coney Island hot dogs at Angelo's, which, before the family that owned it finally sold it and it went downhill, had the finest hot dogs I've ever had.  And made from Koegel hot dogs, of course!  I still have fond memories of the "Flint Original Coney Island" restaurant on Court Street back in the '50s and '60s, I think it was.  I forget when it got razed for something else.  I think I read that some other place has their original sign -- don't know if the dogs are good or not.

You have a favorite Coney Island place, these days?
