I'm sure someone else will chime in, but it has to do with how much they buy up front and what's on display. Basically, the bigger the selection for the consumer gets the higher ranking.

+1. Although there can be huge disparity between different Gold dealers IMO. Find someone you like and build a relationship.

I stopped at a Gold dealer here in Atlanta and all they had on display was a since Large Egg and a couple of bags of BGE lump.
I'll stick with my regular places!!!LBGE since 2014
