Starting a Fire getting it to 600-700

I am a new egg owner I can not seem to get my fire hotter than 500-550. The vents wide open, top and bottom. And the air vents are clean. The coals are red hot and it reads no hotter that 550. And hints?
Thanks
Thanks

1) Make sure you put plenty of charcoal in (fill it up past the fire box at least half way up the ring).
2) Take the daisy wheel off (not just open). It restricts air even in the wide open position.
Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg. -
Also make sure you're not using a bunch of small pieces of lump. It'll restrict airflow.

Thanks everyone. I will make sure I take your suggestions next time.Dmcak.
