Is a Rib Rack Necessary

I feel like I already jumped in feet first with my Big Green Egg only having had it about a week.

I have a question though.  With all of the gadgets, thing-a-ma-bobs, and doo-daads that can be purchased for the egg, my first purchase was a thermometer.  I didn't get one originally and I wish I had.

What about rib racks.  Do I have to have a rib rack to smoke ribs on the BGE?  Surely not, but I don't see too many people on YouTube if any that don't use them.

Thanks from a newb!

Just saves space over laying them flat. Depends on what size Egg you have and how many racks of ribs you want to cook. I prefer laying them flat.

O Captain, My Captain!!  There are many ways to the same end result.  I just recently got a rack so I could do more at a time.  Otherwise, just lay flat.  Many approaches work.

Hi Mr Walt, I have a rib rack and have used it just one time. On my Lg egg, I can do 3 racks flat on the grate and up to 6 if I put them on their sides and run a metal skewer thru them.

Clean up on a rib rack takes time and is not fun.

That being said, you can also buy an AR (which is most common) and do ribs that way.

When I have needed one, I've just taken the turkey roasting rack from the kitchen and inverted it, works fine if you want or need something to cook ribs on edge.
    Love you bro!
