Cast Iron Platesetter making grate level hot

Options
Hi,

I just got a cast iron plate setter and not sure if anyone else is experiencing this.  My grate level thermometer is reading about 30-40 degrees hotter than my dome temp.  I recently did a smoke and my grate level was reading about 277 and my dome temp was reading 235-245.  When i clipped my grate thermometer at the dome, it was reading the same as my dome so I think both are calibrated correctly.  I had the grate thermometer clipped above one of the legs (the pate setter was legs up) so it shouldn't have been getting direct heat.

Anyone have any thoughts?
