Introduction and question

hey there fellow egg headers, wanted to introduce myself and also look for some feedback. I'm from way down south Louisiana and have a LBGE as well as a minimax that my awesome wife gave me for Christmas (it's got ribs on it right now!)
anyways I had a question regarding outdoor kitchens with built in counter space for eggs. I'm currently building a large covered outdoor kitchen and the current plan is to have my large built in right next to my gas grill with a huge vent spanning across covering both. My worries are 1. The vent will not evacuate the large amount of smoke when doing long smokes and 2. If the vent is as powerful as its supposed to be, it will pull air through the egg making temperature control difficult.
does anyone have experience with building in your egg with a vent over it that could give me some guidance? I don't want to do something permanent that will not work properly
thanks!

Thx Matt. Haven't done residential HVAC/R in many years though (strictly industrial & comm). If it were me I'd want a 8'-10' (allows for expansion) hood w/ "minimum" 1,200 cfm (3-4 spd blower) w/ the motor being belt driven and located on the roof so the actual hood isn't as loud. If this space is or was ever enclosed you should also consider a MAU (make up air unit) so the space isn't negative. If it's not enclosed then don't worry about the MAU

thanks for the feedback @NPHuskerFL . the vent is a 1200 cfm and the motor will be mounted high to reduce noise as you said.
so i shouldnt have any concerns about the vent "pulling" air through the egg, making temp control difficult?
also, the patio is a 3 sided enclosure, but all sides have louvered shutters that can be opened to allow air to move through the patio

No help on the vent questions... but looking forward to pictures of the kitchen. Sounds like a cool place you are building.Ellijay GA with a Medium & MiniMax

Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey. Many with varied talents on this forum and as above, @NPHuskerFL is the resident HVAC guy.

thanks for the warm welcome, i will certainly keep an ongoing thread as things progress. the slab is formed up to pour concrete next week

No you won't.create negative pressure on the egg causing temp fluctuations unless of course the hood is mashed right on top of the chimney
. I wouldn't be too awfully concerned myself. LBGE 2013 & MM 2014Die Hard HUSKER & BRONCO FANFlying Low & Slow in "Da Burg" FL -
Hey Welcome, post some pics of you kitchen when it's done, sounds greatLBGE - I like the hot stuff. The big dry San Joaquin Valley, Clovis, CA

As NPHuskerFL said, you shouldn't see a problem with the egg. I'd be more worried about the doors and frames if you're removing too much air.
