Space around EGG

I'm planning a table for my first-ever, soon-to-be-purchased EGG (large size). There has been a lot of forum discussion about how much space is too little between the EGG and the table (re: fire hazard). What I'm wondering is: how much space is too much? Certainly if the space gets too large, say for instance 6 inches, you lose functional table top space and the EGG maybe loses some potential support when needed. I'm thinking that a space of around 1 inch on all sides of the EGG would work good. Am I missing something? Thanks for any thoughts from you pros out there!

If you're asking about the bottom, I'd recommend a table nest and a paver/ granite slab to be sure. If you're asking about the edges around the egg, I'd say 1/2-3/4 is enough. Just remember though, wood is combustible, no matter the precautions.Slumming it in Aiken, SC.

I have a Large in a wooden table and there is about 1 1/2 inches clearance---I raised it by using a ceramic tile, then placing 4 bricks, then another ceramic tile so that there would be air space below, etc. Never had an issue as far as the wood table and the heat, etcLagrange, GA LBGE
