Fitting casters to the BGE Royal Mahogany Table (Large Egg) in the UK
Hi, I'm about to order a large BGE and considering which table to choose. My wife loves the Royal Mahogany but would ideally like casters on it so that we can move it round the decking. I've searched the forum but can't find anyone in the UK who has done this. Any suggestions as to which sort of casters and where I might buy them from? There are a number of posts from USA users but we don't have access to the same suppliers. It looks like the legs are 85mm x 85mm and I'm not sure that a standard bolt on caster would be secure just screwed into the end grain of a table leg. hoping you can help.

Are you going to be moving around a lot over uneven terrain? If not casters with lag screws into the legs should be fine. I did that when I built my table several years ago and have had no issues. But I don't move it around much.
Can't help on the supplier in the UK. Here in the states I got all my stuff from Home Depot.

and something like these for attaching:

Maybe even go a little bit longer. I would pre-drill for the lag screws to minimize any chance of splitting the legs when attaching the castors.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk -
There are caster kits available for the mahogany table through BGE. They are not as substantial as the old style casters, but are just fine for minimal moving as described. The table is pretty tall, and adding aftermarket caster will make it even higher. The stock casters are pretty low profile compared to the aftermarket ones. I would estimate there is a 2-3" difference in height between the two types of casters. The stock ones will screw right into the leveling leg receptacles in the bottom of the table legs.

Only just seen your message David. Did you have any success with getting castors for your table? If not, you could try Rutlands (a woodworking tool supplier) -

I design and make bespoke furniture and so built myself an oak table for my Large BGE and yes I did screw the castors directly into the end grain of the legs.
