Ok guys I am sorry to ask for this help here, but we seem to talk about a lot of things here. I am working on a new website, and the client has an audio cd that he recorded. I need to be able to compress it and convert it over to an mp3 format.
I would really like to be able to put tracks on it as well if this is possible. Of course I would like to be able to use free software if possible. I don't have a Mac if that makes a difference. I am using Windows 7.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

itunes will do it, with some loss of quality.
If you want it perfect, use http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ which will extract to wav. Then you can use LAME (http://lame.sourceforge.net/) to convert the wav files to mp3 at the quality level that works for you.

@johnkitchens, this might help. http://http//windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/rip-music-from-cd#rip-music-from-cd=windows-7 We're still running Windows 7 too and really, really, really don't want to go to Windows10 until they get some of the bugs worked out. If that doesn't look like a good option for you, there is also Audacity, which is a free option. http://http//www.audacityteam.org/Large BGE

@buzd504, I'm glad it's working good for you. After the last two Windows 7 upgrades, we will probably look at again.Large BGE

Personally, I like the user friendliness of iTunes. You can also adjust the settings to save the audio file as losslessXL & MM BGE, 36" Blackstone - Newport News, VA

Id do the iTunes route or the windows media center can do it. Audacity works fine, but can be glitchy if you do not know your PC well.

If you have iTunes, just import the CD to the library, Make a playlist of the tracks, then burn it to a new CD. mp3 is one of the format options, and you can set the gap between the indiviual tracksXLBGE, Small BGE, Homebrew and GuitarsRochester, NY
